Status Report

I know there has been a lack of news lately, but InfraRecorder is still very much in development. Since I am off schedule and have re-prioritized which features/bugs that needs to be taken care of, the roadmap is no longer representative.

Thanks for your patience.

Great work Christian … i’d offer help as well, but i’m a Java guy; so no such luck there :(. Though I’m really good with algorithms if you need.

    Cheers,

Well, I just stumbled accross this website looking for a good CD/DVD burning program on Windows.

And I must say, my first impression is very good! So you will not only make existing users happy when you keep the project going, but will continue to get new “supporters” πŸ˜‰

    Keep up the excellent work!

  10. Excellent to hear that this is still in development! Its my favorite CD burning program, and I recommend it to anyone looking for CD tools. Keep up the great work, and let the community know if you need any help!

  11. Amitanshu Gour says:

I have been using InfraRecorder for some time now and I was actually not into open source softwares two years back then slowly shifted to Mozilla Firefox, followed by OpenOffice,VLC Media Player,Sumatra PDF which I now use as a portable application, portableapps and finally InfraRecorder. From the time I’ve been using InfraRecorder,I find this software great and I have made a complete shift from Nero to InfraRecorder,I hope this is developed actively as it is a great software,a must have and wish to thank Christian Kindahl and any other developers who have been involved in creating this software. As I have recently become a huge supporter of Open Source Softwares and have been promoting it to all those I know who have no idea about Open Source Software and Open Source and Free Software Philosophy, this is one of the softwares I usually tell others about,to download and to use.I read the message board right now and someone said that he hopes InfraRecorder does not meet the same fate as TUGzip,I haven’t used TUGzip ever but I have been using InfraRecorder and just hope that it’s popularity rises more and more, and a lot more people come to know of it and start using it and donating to support this great software. And I will try to tell as many people in my neighbourhood as possible as well as my relatives and friends about this great software. Thanks for the great work you guys have put in to create this superb software.

I don’t want to be a pain in the a**. But, can you check this bug in Windows Vista:
    http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1754792&group_id=175271&atid=872562

    Is annoying.
Thanks! You have an excelent app!

  13. Rainman says:

    Hi,

a fantastic program and im glad to hear you develop further. Your program is my favorit BURN proggi πŸ˜‰

Thanks for your work, and go on.

  14. Guti says:

No problem, I prefer a high quality release, than a soon release.

  15. GlFox says:

One question. Are you planning to introduce support of technology which allows users to burn custom motifs or images onto CD/DVD media (DiscT@2, LabelFlash, LightScribe)?

  16. Niko says:

Nice work so far. I’m using this program and don’t want to install Nero anymore.

But anyone knows how to get an updated cdrtools package for the 32-bit version of the latest InfraRecorder? Only the 64-bit version has an updated cdrtools ;P

  17. Stephan says:

    Hi,
it’s veeeeery nice to hear about developing InfraRecorder! I find it a great, miraculous app … and all for free :-)) So, please, go on developing this software. Thanks to all programmers!

  18. Christian says:

    Thanks for all your comments!

pepemosca: Will be fixed in the next release.
GlFox: Not at the moment, it’s on my to-do list though.
Niko: My mistake, I will include the latest version for all versions next time. You can download and extract cdrtools from the 64-bit Zip package.

  19. Kissol says:

I have some problems to do ISO files and burn it. I don’t understand why .toc file is needed. And how use it to burn or to save the ISO file…
When I did a ISO file with another app. I only need the ISO file – what is .toc file and how can I to manage it?

    Thanks for your great app.!!!

Hey, just stumbled upon this, I like the very clean and simple UI, this is were most apps fail cause nobody cares bout usability, soÒ€”
Thank you very much for developing this, will be my standard app for burning under Windows, it’S always good to have quality FLOSS on Win and Linux, in case some kernel vanishing as lately πŸ˜€ :).

  23. Eagle says:

    Hey Christian,

I’ve been into Nero for a looong time, but recently didn’t wanted to pay so much money for a tool which should only burn my stuff onto a disc – Nero is just way too bloated now..
So I looked around, read reviews and stuff – and suddenly came across your great tool.. And honestly, I loved it from the very first try..
Though, I’ve discovered a problem I that I can’t seem to fix myself – so, that’s why I’m writing this comment.. Maybe you can help me.. πŸ˜‰

    The log-file says:

And it doesn’t matter if I’m running it with my normal user-privileges or with administrative ones (since the log states that I’ve got to be root).. – I’m on a Vista Business x64-machine.. – Any help would be greatly appreciated! πŸ™‚

    Thanks in advance,

  26. Claussendb says:

I too was a NERO user, until I found your wonderful program.

Glad to see that it will stay in development.

  27. pihug12 says:

    I can’t burn a file bigger than 4.2Go on a DVD.
I think there is a problem with UDF.

Please correct it for the next version !!!

  28. Bastian says:

    Hello,
    greets from Germany.
IR is simple, fast loading, does what it should do and is my everyday tool for cd/dvd operations now. Great work and greater decision to to give it to the world. Thanks man, this is what everybody needs instead of 180MB Burning Suites. Small, fast, impressing. That’s IR.

    Greetz, Basti

  29. Lionel says:

    Thank you from France.
InfraRecorder is my prefered burning tool. I’m very glad to see that the project is still active.

  30. Kruno says:

I can only repeat what all people before me wrote. Really amazing and fast program. A one of those must-have programs.

    Best wishes,
    Kruno

  31. Eagle says:

    Hi again,

it would be really nice, if Christian could answer the problem I’m facing, because it prevents me from burning my data and therefore IR isn’t as helpful at the moment as it could be.. πŸ˜‰

    Best regards,
    Martin.. πŸ™‚

  32. infra says:

If the developer(s) could polish a bit the features and menus will be great, it is a times just a bit annoying to work with:-P I am sure it can be polished, to perfection (an I am not talking about looks, but functionality). Thank you for the program.

  33. milan says:

    Hi

nice that this project is still alive… because i like infrarecorder… InfraRecorder has big future….. πŸ™‚

  34. Message to Eagle says:

    Hey Martin,

Nothing is preventing you from burning your data since you’ve “been into Nero for a looong time, but recently didnÒ€ℒt wanted to pay so much money”. You obiviously have, or have had access to Nero whether by legal or illegal means.

Since this may be your first brush with open source, please keep in mind that most developers enjoy coding as a hobby or they have a need for the tool that they are working on. As such, they do appreciate feedback. However, reporting something and then “hinting” about it again just takes up space and says that hey, “I’m getting something for nothing and I’m gonna complain about it when it doesn’t work, and bug you when it’s not fixed in a week.”

Since it is open source feel free to fix it yourself, or after reporting the issue wait until Christian feels the need, or gets the time to correct the issue. After all, he’s doing this for his own reasons and is nice enough to release his work under the GPL so that everyone can benefit.

There are also several other Disc burning utilities out there that are freeware or open source if InfraRecorder is not working for you.

Thanks for the work Christian! I appreciate what you’ve done and look forward to the next release.

  35. @Ste says:

    InfraRecorder ROCKS.
    Please continue the develop!

  36. Ch.Durga Rao says:

I like Infra Recorder. I had some problems in writing second session to my CD(ROM). I unchecked Fixate disc, sometimes tried in Mode2 XA option. But multi session option, the software is not supporting. The copying failed. Kindly corrct this feature in Infra Recorder.

  37. tuisu says:

I’ve had no problems so far with Infra Recorder. Have been using it as my default burning tool for several months now though I’m not really a heavy burner. Just wanted to show my appreciation to your work on it.

    Thanks!

  38. Ruudboek says:

Infrarecorder is absolutely great. I really like the intuitive layout and how tight this burning app has been programmed, blazing fast! This is how every windows app should be made.
It also looks a lot like the good old Easy CD Creator.
If Infrarecorder would get bootable cd support, it will make it a full blown recorder suite to rival Nero in my opinion.

  39. paranoid says:

A company called AppZilla software is producing a pirated sharware version of Infrarecorder. Please put a post of IR’s homepage about this- it’s just awful when people do that kind of thing. The rogue’s homepage is http://www.app-zilla.com/brisk_express.html

  40. Chris Gray says:

Also something to think about; I remember you saying that you’d like to add lightscribe support down the track, so if you weren’t aware they’ve released an SDK making it easier to integrate.

    http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/linux/index.aspx?id=816

Looking forward to the next version, even if it’s a buxfix release.

  41. Eagle says:

    Hi again,

since there was a guy answering my previous post(s), I feel the need for correcting some points – so, here we go:

You got me all wrong (mostly, at least)! It was _never_ my intention to say what you thought I’d have said.

As I write some snippets and little apps myself (and release them _always_ for free), I know exactly, how much work and time it costs – FYI, right now, I’m developing a new SIP-software together with a friend of mine which will be released under (L)GPL and/or CC (we don’t have choosen a final licence, yet).

But since I’m not familiar with the underlying tools of InfraRecorder, there’s no quick way for me to fix that bug. Therefore I’ll be waiting until the next version is released and if the bug will still be present, I’ll contact Christian again, so that he got feedback about it again.

So, in conclusion, I want to state that my original intention only focused on requesting a reply from Christian that he’s aware of them problem (and maybe wants some more information on this from me) and that he’ll be working on it.

It did _not_ (repeat: N-O-T) want to complain about InfraRecorder, because (except that bug I’m facing right now) there’s _absolutely_ nothing, that I could complain about!

    Best regards,
    Martin..

    P. S.: Yes, my version of Nero was/is a legal one, because Samsung put it into the package of my recorder as a little bonus.. – So, no big, bloated Nero Premium, just Nero Express.. πŸ˜‰

  42. Eagle says:

Oh, wait – InfraRecorder works now.. I suddenly “misclicked” a dialog and after that rescan of all available drives, everything is working as expected again..

So, Christian, the bug is gone and maybe it was Vista mixing up the drives and InfraRecorder not getting the drivers order right.. πŸ˜‰

  43. kiwi says:

    Eagle.
I solved the problem “Cannot open SCSI driver” by going to Options/Devices and ticked the box “Silently validate config at each startup” may or may not work fpr you Cheers

  44. Harry says:

InfragRecorder is the best open source burner I’ve ever used! I had some trouble when appending burn to my DVD, how can I appending burn with InfraRecorder? Thanks.

  45. Rex Vaughn says:

Is there a way to set up a scheduled task that would open Infrarecorder, load an existing project file, and then burn that to a dvd?

  46. Christian says:

Rex: This may be tricky because InfraRecorder requires user input before starting the recording process. Maybe it’s possible if you use some program that can record and replay mouse actions.

  47. Bishop with out a move says:

I had some randomn message pop up on opening IR today it was doing a drivers and scan check it said I hit “ok”.
I have tried to burn a DVD now and it says on the burn window Recorders not available ….
I checked my config and Devices options nothing will let me re engage my burner.
I tried updating drivers and its all updated….
    Any ideas??

  48. Ben says:

Is this programs still being developed? 4 years on and no status report? The roadmap only goes up to 2010… what is going on?
